About The Rail Golf Course

The Rail is a public 18-hole course that Robert Trent Jones Sr. laid out on an old dairy farm in the Springfield area, a project begun by local businessmen around 1969. Its name is credited to the split-rail fence that surrounded the farm. A Lincoln Library oral history says the front nine opened in 1968 and the back nine in 1973; other listings give 1970 or 1974. From 1976 to 2006 The Rail hosted the LPGA State Farm Classic, making it Springfield's home for women's professional golf for three decades.
