Why we love this place
A family farm turned golf haven, complete with New England stone walls and Taconic views. We love Undermountain because it is honest, walkable and welcoming, the kind of nine where beginners feel at home and good players still have to think. Fifty years in and still family-run.

About Undermountain Golf Course
Undermountain Golf Course was established in 1976 when owner Jack Shakshober, determined to get serious about his own game, laid out nine holes across the natural terrain and rolling alleyways of his family farm on Under Mountain Road in Copake, in the Taconic foothills of Columbia County. The Shakshober family turned their front yard into a golfer's haven, and the family still runs the course today. The executive-length nine plays to a par of 32, with alternate tees for a second loop, and old New England stone walls mark many of its boundaries. The rolling layout is easy to walk, forgiving for beginners yet still challenging for experienced players, and it hosts numerous non-profit events. The course marked its fiftieth anniversary in 2026.
