Whispering Springs grew out of an older nine-hole course east of Fond du Lac that went by names including Town and Country, Ledgewood and Ledgeview. Architect Bob Lohmann reworked the original nine and designed nine new holes, and the 18-hole daily-fee course was built in 1996 as the centerpiece of a 300-acre residential development.
