Mattaponi Springs in Ruther Glen was Bob Lohmann's first East Coast design, built by Bellemount Development as an upscale daily-fee course on the 330-acre former Rose Hill estate, about an hour south of Washington. It opened in 2004 and was runner-up for Golf Digest's Best New Upscale Public in 2005, then made the magazine's America's 100 Greatest Public list from 2009 to 2013.
