Plans for Whispering Woods Golf Club became public in early 2002. Construction began in late 2005 among the homes of the Whispering Woods residential development, and the front and back nines were seeded in two phases during 2006. The course opened as a semi-private club on May 25, 2007. It was designed by the late John Exley, who also designed the Upper Course at Peek'n Peak Resort.
