About Woburn Country Club
Woburn businessmen incorporated a private golf corporation in 1922, purchasing roughly 80-90 acres of the former Pierce estate near Horn Pond, and the partially completed course opened for play on May 6, 1923. During the Great Depression the club fell behind on taxes and the City of Woburn took the property in 1934; it has been a city-owned municipal course since, now a nine-hole, par-34 public layout. The land was cleared by D. McLaughlin and Sons, and first greenskeeper Eugene A. Meagher laid out the early greens.
