The golf course at Barnsley Resort, known as The General, is a Jim Fazio design that opened in 1999 in the North Georgia foothills near Adairsville. The resort grew up around the 19th-century estate of Godfrey Barnsley, a Savannah cotton merchant who built a manor called Woodlands for his wife, Julia, with gardens inspired by landscape designer Andrew Jackson Downing. The course plays over rolling ground to Champion Bermuda greens, is known for a strong set of par 3s, and has hosted the Georgia Open.
