Belgrade Lakes Golf Club

Belgrade Lakes Golf Club opened in 1998 in central Maine's lakes region, the debut American design of English architect and former Ryder Cup player Clive Clark. The course was commissioned by businessman and philanthropist Harold Alfond, who wanted eighteen holes near his Maine summer home. Clark routed the layout across dramatic elevated terrain with several hundred feet of elevation change, leaning on rocky outcrops and glacial boulders as primary hazards rather than water. The routing is admired for its variety and walkability, with sweeping views over Long Pond and the surrounding hills. The public course quickly drew national attention and has been recognized among America's finest public courses by Golf Digest, earning a reputation as a rugged, memorable mountain-and-lake test tucked into the Maine wilderness.
