Pete Dye designed Blackwolf Run in Kohler; its first 18 holes opened in 1988, and the property grew to 36 holes by 1990. When the second 18 was added, the original holes were split between two courses, and Meadow Valleys' holes 10 through 18 come from that first layout. Those nine holes were part of the composite course used for the U.S. Women's Open in 1998 and 2012. The name honors Black Wolf, a Winnebago (Ho-Chunk) chief.
