About Candlewood Valley Country Club

Candlewood Valley Country Club is a public 18-hole course on Danbury Road in New Milford, across the road from New Milford High School. Golf directories date its opening to between 1955 and 1960, and no architect is firmly documented. In 1991 local officials approved rearranging two holes to add about 500 yards and bring the layout to nearly 6,000 yards; today it measures roughly 6,400 yards from the back tees. The Rehnberg family owned the course from 1977 until they put it up for sale, and after about 18 months on the market, retired Greenwich firefighter Jerry Romaniello and a syndicate of investors bought it in 2024 for about $2.5 million, with plans to reopen the kitchen, extend the driving range and expand the banquet space. Handling more than 30,000 rounds a year, Candlewood Valley was named the New England Golf Course Owners Association's Course of the Year for 2026.
