Norwich Golf Course

Est. 1895 · Tull & Tull (with Walter J. Travis)
Why we love this place

Norwich packs well over a century of golf into one city-owned course. The 1925 routing rolls across old farm ground with greens that feel straight out of the Golden Age, and the rates stay friendly. A must-play for anyone who loves classic eastern Connecticut golf.

About Norwich Golf Course

Golf in Norwich dates to 1888, when Ernest Felix Potter laid out a six-hole course behind the old Benedict Arnold homestead, and the Norwich Golf Club was formed in 1895, later growing its course to 18 holes. In 1910 the Norwich Golf Land Company bought 80 acres that still form part of today's course, and a nine-hole layout was built there. In 1924 the club's governors authorized more land purchases, adding parts of the Connelly, Pierson and Allen farms, and engaged the firm of Tull & Tull to draw plans, with Walter J. Travis associated to refine them. Work began in May 1924, the greens were finished that September, and the new 18 opened on July 4, 1925. Long-running talk that Donald Ross designed it has never been backed by evidence. Now owned by the City of Norwich, the par-71 course on the New London Turnpike is open to the public.
