Cobbs Creek Golf Course Olde

Cobbs Creek opened in 1916 as a municipal course for West Philadelphia, its Olde Course laid out by Merion architect Hugh Wilson with input from George Crump of Pine Valley and other giants of the region's golden age. It quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest public courses in the country and hosted the USGA Amateur Public Links in 1928. Just as important is its social legacy: unlike most clubs of the era, Cobbs Creek was open to Black golfers, and Hall of Famer Charlie Sifford honed his game there. Decades of flooding and neglect forced the course to close in 2020. A major restoration, aiming to revive Wilson's original design and add a community education center, is now underway. It sits in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
