Why we love it: Aronimink is Donald Ross with the volume turned up, big, muscular parkland golf and those maddening crowned greens. We love that a Hanse restoration brought Ross's vision back, and that a club this quietly grand keeps drawing the game's biggest championships to Philadelphia.

About Aronimink Golf Club
Aronimink Golf Club lies in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, not New Jersey, on land the club acquired in 1926 before relocating there in 1928. Donald Ross designed the course, later regarding it as a masterpiece; on a return visit he reportedly said he "built better than I knew." Over the years, alterations by Dick Wilson, George Fazio and Robert Trent Jones softened Ross's intent, but a Gil Hanse restoration guided by historical aerials returned the course toward its original character. Aronimink has hosted an impressive slate of championships: the 1962 PGA Championship, won by Gary Player by a single stroke over Bob Goalby; the PGA Tour's AT&T National; the 2018 BMW Championship; and the 2020 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Long, tree-lined and demanding, with Ross's crowned greens and deep bunkering, it stands among the finest parkland tests in the Philadelphia region.
