A real Donald Ross from 1926, with Bobby Jones woven into its story, is a treasure this coast is lucky to have. We love that the restoration chased authenticity over flash. Those greens and surrounds reward the kind of thoughtful golf the old masters intended.

About Sara Bay Country Club
Sara Bay Country Club is a genuine Donald Ross original, born in the Roaring Twenties land boom north of Sarasota. Ross walked the Whitfield Estates property in 1925, and the club opened as Whitfield Estates Country Club on January 22, 1926, at the heart of a new real estate development. Amateur legend Bobby Jones served as sales manager for that development, tying his name to the club's early identity, and the course hosted an exhibition match pitting Jones against professional star Walter Hagen. The club was later renamed North Shore, then Sarasota Bay, and finally Sara Bay in 1964. In recent years architect Kris Spence led a careful restoration returning the greens, surrounds and angles of play toward Ross's original intent. Now past its centennial, Sara Bay remains one of Florida's most authentic classic-era layouts.
