Pelican Golf Club

Golf has been played on this Belleair land since the 1920s, when the course took shape in the Donald Ross era alongside the historic Belleview hotel. After years as a faltering public layout, the property was acquired and reborn as the private Pelican Golf Club, with architect Beau Welling completing a ground-up reimagining that reopened in 2018. Finding little of Ross's original documentation, Welling retained much of the routing while rebuilding it with a Golden Age sensibility, adding movement, tree-framed corridors and slick greens that many compare to Augusta National. The course has quickly become a fixture of women's professional golf, hosting the LPGA Tour's Pelican Women's Championship, which was later reformatted as The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge in partnership with Annika Sorenstam.
