About Fort Sam Houston Golf Course

Fort Sam Houston Golf Club is a military facility with two 18-hole courses, La Loma and Salado del Rio. The first 18 holes on the current site were built from 1935-1937 to an A.W. Tillinghast design, with the first nine constructed by soldiers; additional nines followed (1965 and a 1974 Ralph Plummer nine), and the 36 holes were later reorganized into the two courses, with redesign work by the Kevin Tucker Design Group. It hosted the Texas Open in the 1950s and 1960s, reportedly the only military facility to host a PGA event.
