Goat Hill Park Golf Course

Goat Hill Park sits on a hilly Oceanside parcel that first opened for golf in 1952 as Center City Golf Course, reputedly the first course in San Diego County. Ludwig Keehn later reworked it into the compact, par-65 eighteen-hole layout still played today. After years of decline threatened it with development, apparel designer John Ashworth teamed with the Linksoul crew and the surrounding community to take over management in 2014, pouring volunteer labor and more than three million dollars into reviving the tumbling, quirky course. The city later granted a long-term lease, and Goat Hill earned its nickname, "The People's Park." Unpretentious and walkable, with steep lies and ocean-air views, it has become a national symbol of grassroots, community-owned golf and a magnet for players who value character over polish.
