Intervale Country Club

Est. 1898
Why we love this place

Intervale was saved twice, first by a mill workers' club and then by members who dug it out after the 1936 flood. We love that this working-class nine still offers Manchester golfers an affordable, friendly game more than a century later.

About Intervale Country Club

Golf has been played on the grounds of Intervale Country Club, on Front Street in Manchester, since 1898; GolfPass records the course itself as built in 1903. In 1927 the Amoskeag Textile Club took over the course to give mill workers and area residents an affordable place to play. In 1934 the Intervale Land Company was formed, as the textile club had prescribed, to oversee the club permanently. Two years later the Great Flood of 1936 buried the fairways and greens in silt, and members considered abandoning the course; instead, the board and grounds crew restored it with limited resources and kept it open. Today Intervale is a nine-hole, par-36 course with roots in Manchester's mill-era community life. It operates as a semi-private club, with members holding priority on weekends and the public welcome on weekdays and after 3 p.m. on weekends.
