Kiawah Island Club - Cassique Pulpit

Cassique opened in 2000 as the second private course of the Kiawah Island Club and the first solo design in North America by Hall of Famer Tom Watson. Drawing on a career shaped by British links at Carnoustie, St. Andrews and Turnberry, Watson built a windswept, links and heathland-style layout on Johns Island, where the Kiawah River spreads into tidal marsh. Firm ground, rumpled fairways, revetted-style bunkering and exposure to coastal wind reward a creative running game over aerial power. A distinctive feature is a set of interchangeable holes; a cluster near the turn can be routed into alternate loops known as Nip-N-Tuck, Pulpit and Due East, letting the Club vary the round. The par-72 course plays to roughly 7,050 yards. Cassique earned early recognition on Golf Digest's Best New Private Courses list and has remained a fixture on national residential and modern-course rankings.
