Kingsley Club

The Kingsley Club sits on rolling glacial land just south of Traverse City in Kingsley, Michigan, and is widely regarded as one of the finest modern courses in the Midwest. Designed by architect Mike DeVries, a Michigan native, the course opened in 2001 after two seasons of construction on a roughly 400-acre site. DeVries worked lightly with the land, moving relatively little earth and letting the property's natural humps, hollows and sandy ground dictate a rugged, links-inspired routing dotted with well over a hundred bunkers. The result is a firm, fast, strategic course that rewards imagination and the running shot, earning consistent placement among the top modern designs in national rankings. The private club has continued to grow, with a second course by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw planned to bring the property to 36 holes later this decade. Kingsley remains a favorite among devoted golf-architecture enthusiasts.
