Loblolly (formerly Loblolly Pines) is a private, member-owned club in Hobe Sound founded by young couples from Chicago and Philadelphia who began with the Loblolly Bay Yacht Club and Marina before adding golf. The course was built in the late 1980s by Pete Dye and his son P.B. Dye, who used sand excavated from retention ponds to create rolling fairways and dune ridges up to 40 feet high, unusual for coastal Florida. The yacht club and golf club later merged into the roughly 275-member club now known simply as Loblolly.
