About Maggie Hathaway Golf Course
This South Los Angeles public par-3 course opened in 1962 (originally the Jack Thompson Golf Course) and in 1997 was renamed for Maggie Hathaway — the Los Angeles Sentinel sports columnist and civil-rights activist who fought golf segregation, founded the Beverly Hills-Hollywood NAACP chapter, and picketed PGA events over the lack of jobs for Black professionals. Long one of the few accessible golf venues in South L.A., it reopened in March 2026 after a roughly $20 million renovation honoring its civil-rights legacy.
