Monadnock Country Club

Est. 1901
Why we love this place

Monadnock Country Club is golf at its most neighborly: nine short, tree-lined holes tucked off High Street, no houses in sight, and more than a century of Peterborough golfers behind it. It's the kind of place where a quick evening loop feels like a small-town tradition.

About Monadnock Country Club

Monadnock Country Club opened in 1901 on High Street in Peterborough, and more than a century later it still carries its original name. The club has always been compact: a short nine-hole course on about 32 acres, ringed by trees rather than houses or condos, which gives it a secluded feel just minutes from downtown. The land is owned by the MacDowell artist residency, and the golf has been run under lease by local operators. From 2017 through the 2021 season the business operated as Hilltop, and in 2022 a new operator reached an agreement directly with MacDowell and reopened the course under the Monadnock Country Club name. The par-29 layout has holes ranging from just over 100 yards to roughly 300, and the club offers daily play, lessons, leagues and memberships, describing itself as a place that has united golfers of all ages for more than a century.
