Mountain View Grand Golf Course

Est. 1900 · Ralph Barton
Why we love this place

Few nine-holers come with a backdrop like this: the Mountain View Grand's white facade behind you and the mountains across the valley. Ralph Barton's old resort layout is relaxed, walkable fun, and the two-tee twist makes the second loop feel like a brand-new round.

About Mountain View Grand Golf Course

The golf course at the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield grew out of the resort's turn-of-the-century expansion. The Mountain View House dates to the 1860s, and as it grew it added golf for its guests, with the course opening for play in 1900. The nine holes are credited to Ralph Barton, a Harvard mathematics professor. The layout has a clever twist: each hole has two sets of tees, so golfers can play the nine twice for a full 18-hole round of roughly 5,800 yards at par 70. The course sits beside the restored grand hotel, with long views across to the White Mountains, and the resort's guest register over the years included business leaders, celebrities and presidents. Today it remains open to resort guests and the public during the summer season, with carts and rentals available.
