Purgatory Golf Club

Purgatory Golf Club opened in 2000 on former prairie and wetland north of Indianapolis, near Strawtown in the Noblesville area. Third-generation architect Ron Kern shaped a links-inspired layout defined by tall fescue rough, large undulating greens, and an enormous set of flash-faced bunkers, with well over 100 in play across the property. The bunkering has drawn particular acclaim; Golf Digest's Ron Whitten praised the sand work as the best he had seen in decades. Stretching beyond 7,700 yards from the tips at par 72, Purgatory is among the longest public courses in the country and rewards players who choose the correct set of tees. It has earned recognition as a top public course nationally and was named Indiana Golf Course of the Year in 2016.
