Riverwood opened in 1997 on rolling terrain along the Neuse River, designed by David Postlethwait as 27 holes. North Carolina Magazine named it one of the Top Ten Best New Courses in North Carolina on its debut, and it hosted the 1999 National Junior College Golf Championships.
