About Royster Memorial Golf Course
Dr. and Mrs. S.S. Royster donated about 50 acres to the City of Shelby in 1948 for a new municipal park. A nine-hole course was built on the land, dedicated as Royster Memorial Golf Course and run by Shelby Parks and Recreation, opening for play in 1949. It is a short, wooded, hilly par-35 layout of about 2,911 yards. The architect is not documented.
