About Stanley Golf Course - Blue And Red Course

Stanley Golf Course occupies part of A.W. Stanley Park, New Britain's largest park at 556 acres, on land donated to the city in the 1920s by Arthur W. Stanley of the tool-making family. The city built the course in the late 1920s, and its first nine holes date to 1930; ForeTee credits the original Red and Blue nines to Robert J. Ross, with play on the combination dated to 1931. A 1938 trade report credited local pro Val Flood with layout improvements, and a third nine, the White, designed by Orrin E. Smith, followed in 1958 to make 27 holes. Between 1973 and 1975 the whole course was renovated one nine per year, with greens and tees rebuilt and new irrigation installed, under architect Geoffrey Cornish. Still city-owned and open to the public, Stanley has added a covered, heated practice range with Toptracer technology in recent years.
