Statesville Country Club traces to the early 1920s, when local leaders formed the "Statesville Developing Club"; a first nine-hole course designed by Seth Raynor was built on donated land in 1925. The member-owned club was formally organized in 1944, later moving to a new 768-acre site east of the city where an 18-hole course by R.G. McKay opened (clubhouse completed 1964); Tom Jackson renovated it in 1998.
