The City of Rome built Stonebridge in 1994 to give Northwest Georgia a public championship course, and architect Arthur L. Davis laid it out in the Appalachian foothills around a 27-acre lake. Golf Digest named it one of Georgia's top 20 courses in 1997, and it has hosted the Georgia Public Links and the Georgia Senior Women's Championship. The city still owns it.
