Tallwood Country Club

Est. 1970 · Michael Ovian and Karnig Ovian
Why we love this place

We love Tallwood's homegrown story: two brothers finished a course someone else abandoned and turned it into a respected 18-hole club. It hosts serious amateur events yet still feels like a friendly, family-style place, with four sets of tees so everyone in your group gets a fair shot at a good day.

About Tallwood Country Club

Tallwood Country Club began with an unfinished project. A group of investors had started building a course in Hebron but halted construction in 1968 with only a few holes shaped, and Mike Ovian took over, founding the club in 1970, restarting the work and opening nine holes in 1971. His brother Karnig joined the venture in 1974, when Tallwood began its growth into an 18-hole course, and the two Ovians are credited with the design. In 1995 the McDermott family bought the club and upgraded the course for tournament play, and over the years Tallwood has hosted many of Connecticut's leading men's and women's amateur and state events. Concord Golf Properties acquired the club in 2021, completely renovating the clubhouse interior and making further improvements on the course. Through more than half a century and several owners, Tallwood has stayed a family-style, public-access club, with four sets of tees serving golfers across eastern Connecticut.
