The Rookery opened for public play in August 2000 on sandy farmland owned by Albert Lank near the Broadkill River outside Milton. Superintendent Chris Adkins pitched a golf course for the site, 22 local investors signed on within two weeks, and the course opened one year to the day after ground was broken. Adkins and Pete Oakley, the 2004 Senior British Open champion, designed it. The links-flavored par 71 has elevated, crowned greens, 14 acres of ponds and an island green. A second course, The Rookery North in Milford, closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and reopened in 2024 as Southern Delaware Golf Club.
