The Welk Resort San Diego

In 1964 entertainer Lawrence Welk purchased about 900 acres of mostly undeveloped land near Escondido, roughly 20 miles north of San Diego; the property already included a golf course, a motel and a mobile home community. After Welk staged a show there, the site grew and eventually added a theater, more golf and vacation homes. Today the resort has two 18-hole courses, the Oaks and the Fountains. It is a resort course open to the public.
