Whispering Pines Golf Club

Whispering Pines occupies a sprawling property of piney woods, creeks, lakes and natural dunes near Trinity, Texas, roughly ninety miles north of Houston, on land tied to Houston businessman Corby Robertson Jr. Robertson developed the club as a low-key, golf-focused retreat and handled the original routing before bringing in Chet Williams of Nicklaus Design in the late 1990s to refine and shape the course, which opened for play in 2000. The setting, unusual for Texas, delivers a secluded, heavily wooded parkland experience with elevation, water and abundant wildlife. Kept intentionally private and understated, the club has nonetheless earned strong national recognition and consistently ranks among the top courses in the state. It is best known as home to The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship, a biennial event that gathers leading men's and women's amateur golfers from countries around the world, giving the remote club a distinctly global amateur profile.
