The Woodlands course at Sunriver Resort opened in the early 1980s, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. It winds through ponderosa and lodgepole pine, lava-rock outcroppings and water at about 4,500 feet in Central Oregon. With resort golfers in mind, Jones emphasized sharp doglegs and elevated greens over sheer length, and he kept old-growth trees and volcanic rock in play.
