Alling Memorial Golf Club

Est. 1930 · Robert D. Pryde (attribution uncertain; also credited to McDonald)
Why we love this place

Alling Memorial is New Haven's own course, with nearly a century of city golf behind it and a full renovation that freshened it up in 2005. It has hosted state and USGA events, yet it stays friendly and affordable for daily players and college golfers alike.

About Alling Memorial Golf Club

Alling Memorial Golf Course is the City of New Haven's municipal 18-hole course, set along Eastern Street. Golf annuals from 1929 and 1931 list it as the New Haven Municipal Golf Club, noting it as under construction in 1929, and course directories date its completion to about 1930. Its architect is uncertain: a course database credits Robert D. Pryde, while other references, including a state golf association club profile, have named a designer called McDonald. The course later took the Alling Memorial name. It underwent an extensive renovation, costing about a million dollars, that was completed during the 2005 season. Over the years Alling has hosted many USGA, Connecticut State Golf Association and Connecticut PGA tournaments, and it serves as the home course for Albertus Magnus College golf. A PGA professional offers lessons and clinics, and the course remains popular for daily play and group outings.
