About Black Mesa Golf Club
Black Mesa Golf Club opened in 2003 on Santa Clara Pueblo land near Española, about thirty minutes north of Santa Fe. Architect Baxter Spann, working with developer Eddie Peck, routed the high-desert, links-style course over and around sandstone foothills, using the region's natural ridges, arroyos and native vegetation to shape dramatic, unconventional holes. Spann has credited a visit to North Carolina's Tobacco Road for encouraging him to design boldly and work on the edges of convention. The result earned immediate acclaim: Golf Digest named it a Best New Affordable Course and Golf Magazine ranked it among the top public courses to debut that year. Playing firm and fast at altitude, with sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding high country, Black Mesa has remained a fixture on national top-100 lists and is regularly praised for its challenge, scenery and exceptional value.
