Pinon Hills Gc

Piñon Hills opened in November 1989 as a municipal course for Farmington, in the northwest corner of New Mexico, built by the city for under three million dollars as part of a pay-as-you-go recreation initiative. Architect Ken Dye laid the holes across a roughly 1,000-acre site, moving relatively little earth and letting the natural mesa terrain, arroyos, and elevation changes shape the routing. Golf World hailed it as one of the best new desert courses at its debut, and in 2002 Golf Digest ranked it the number one municipal course in the nation. That reputation, paired with famously low green fees, has made Piñon Hills a byword for golf value, drawing players from across the region who want championship-caliber desert golf without a resort price tag.
