About Cape Ann Golf Course
Cape Ann Golf Course opened in 1931, built on land that had been a dairy farm owned by business partners James Stavros and James Thanos until a fire destroyed the barn and livestock. The two commissioned Eugene "Skip" Wogan, then the golf pro at Essex County Club and a protege of Donald Ross, to lay out the course. The 9-hole, par-34 layout (about 2,853 yards) is the only public golf course on Cape Ann today.
