About Genesee Valley Golf Club

Genesee Valley Park, first called South Park, was part of Rochester's Frederick Law Olmsted park system along the Genesee River. Under his son John Charles Olmsted, recreation was added to the park, including a golf course that replaced the open meadow. The city's first public course, nine holes, opened there in 1899, and it grew to 18 holes in 1917. Today the park's golf complex is one of Rochester's municipal mainstays, set in a landscape the Olmsted firm designed.
