The Francis family purchased land in Marshfield in 1965 and established a turf farm to develop their proprietary "Vesper Velvet" bentgrass. In 1971 they opened Green Harbor Golf Club, an 18-hole public course laid out by Manuel Francis, Sr. that showcased the same bentgrass greens. It remains a family-owned public course situated between Boston and Cape Cod.
