Griffin Gate Golf Club

Griffin Gate Golf Club opened in 1981 as one of the earliest solo design commissions for architect Rees Jones, who would later earn the nickname 'The Open Doctor' for his U.S. Open restoration work. Set on the grounds of what is now a Marriott resort in Lexington, the par-72 championship layout winds across gently rolling Bluegrass terrain, with mature trees, water, and strategically placed bunkering framing the holes. Through the 1980s the course served as host to a Senior PGA Tour stop, staged under a series of title sponsors including the Bank One Senior Golf Classic. Rees Jones returned in the mid-2000s to rebuild the bunkers, and the surrounding resort has since undergone major renovation. Today it endures as an approachable resort course with genuine architectural lineage.
