About Jackson Park Golf Course
Designed by Tom Bendelow, Jackson Park Golf Course opened May 11, 1899 as the first public golf course west of the Allegheny Mountains, and was originally free to play. Owned by the Chicago Park District, it sits on the South Side lakefront land that hosted the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. It has hosted the Chicago City Amateur for over a century (won five times by Chick Evans) and long served as a home for African American golfers and clubs, including the Bob-O-Links Junior Golf Club founded in 1954.
