Kwiniaska Golf Club

Est. 1965 · Brad Caldwell (1965); P.B. Dye (2020 redesign)
Why we love this place

Kwiniaska pairs a 1965 family-built classic with a fresh P.B. Dye redesign, so you get history and bold modern shaping in the same round. Big Shelburne skies, a renovated clubhouse and three Vermont Amateurs on the record make it a Chittenden County must.

About Kwiniaska Golf Club

Kwiniaska Golf Club opened in May 1965, built by Brad Caldwell, who founded it with his wife May on Spear Street in Shelburne. The name is an Abenaki word meaning "elbow in the river," a reference to the bend of the LaPlatte River through town. The Caldwell family ran the club for more than five decades, adding irrigation, ponds and tree lines along the fairways, and by its 50th anniversary in 2015 it was hosting roughly 35,000 rounds a year. Kwiniaska hosted the Vermont Amateur in 1975, 1994 and 2009. In the fall of 2017 Robert and Marcia Nappi bought the course and hired P.B. Dye in 2018 to redesign it; the new 18-hole layout debuted in May 2020, alongside a renovated clubhouse. Today it plays as a par 70 from about 4,500 to more than 5,800 yards.
