Woodstock Country Club

Est. 1895 · Wayne Stiles (1925 18-hole layout); Robert Trent Jones Sr. (1963 redesign); William H. Tucker (1906 original course, replaced)
Why we love this place

A Robert Trent Jones Sr. par 70 tucked into the Kedron Valley, with a brook that seems to find every hole and Mount Peg watching over it all. It is short, smart and gorgeous in October, and the village green is a two-minute walk from the first tee. Classic Vermont golf.

About Woodstock Country Club

Golf came to Woodstock in 1895, when the Woodstock Country Club was established in the Kedron Valley just south of the village green, beneath the slopes of Mount Peg. The course grew up alongside the Woodstock Inn, whose own story reaches back to Captain Israel Richardson's 1793 tavern and to the grand 1892 Inn that made Woodstock one of New England's early resort towns. In 1967 conservationist Laurance Rockefeller bought the Inn and rebuilt it, and the golf course became the centerpiece of the resort he and his wife Mary shaped. The present layout is credited to Robert Trent Jones Sr. It is a compact par 70 of 6,052 yards from the back tees, short by modern standards but demanding, because Kedron Brook winds the length of the property and comes into play on hole after hole. The course is open to the public and has been listed among Golf Magazine's top golf resorts.
