Williston Golf Club

Est. 1927 · Frank Talcott (1927 nine); Ben Murray (expansion to 18)
Why we love this place

Four generations of one family have turned a 1927 sand-green nine into a championship venue that hosted the 2021 Vermont Amateur. Williston is well kept, great value and full of hometown pride, and Old Duffers Tavern is the perfect nineteenth hole.

About Williston Golf Club

Williston Golf Club began in 1927, when Frank Talcott built nine holes for his friends and family, complete with sand greens, coffee cans for cups and a single shared set of hickory-shafted clubs. His son George Talcott ran the course until the mid-1960s, and in the late 1960s Frank's daughter Shirley and her husband, Ben Murray, took over. Murray redesigned the layout and added nine holes to make a full 18, and the family kept improving the property, including the clubhouse that now houses Old Duffers Tavern. Frank Talcott's great-grandsons now own and run the club, the fourth generation of the family, and it has marked nearly a century of family ownership. Williston has become a regular championship host, staging the Vermont Masters in 2015, the VGA Mid-Amateur in 2016, the VGA Senior in 2018, the Vermont Amateur in 2021 and the women's senior championship in 2023.
