Golf began at Sharon Country Club in 1898, when three holes were laid out on the pastures of a dairy farm owned by George O'Leary. The club was formally organized in 1914 and purchased the farm in 1923, converting the barn into a clubhouse. Most of the holes were designed by Wayne Stiles and his partner John Van Kleek in the 1920s, building on earlier routing attributed to Scottish professional Alex Findlay around 1900. Mass Golf celebrated the club's 125th anniversary in 2023.
