Lost Dunes Golf Club

Lost Dunes Golf Club opened in 1999 in Bridgman, Michigan, on a reclaimed sand quarry near Lake Michigan and served as one of Tom Doak's early breakthrough designs. The former mining site handed Doak an unusual canvas: towering forested dunes ringing the property, two deep pit lakes, and abundant native sand that let his Renaissance Golf crew build sprawling waste areas and windblown, jagged bunkering. Because the greens were shaped from that native sand, Doak was free to push their contours to an extreme; he has described them as among the wildest set of greens he has built. Interstate 94 famously runs through the middle of the routing, a quirk the design absorbs without losing its flow. The par-71 layout, measuring roughly 6,900 yards, quickly earned acclaim for its bold minimalist character.
