About Makena Golf And Beach Club
Makena's golf history began in 1981 when Robert Trent Jones Jr. laid out an 18-hole course for what was then the Maui Prince resort on the island's quieter southern coast, below the slopes of Haleakala near Wailea. In 1993 the operation expanded, with additional nines added to form separate North and South eighteens for a time. Today Makena Golf and Beach Club is a private, members-only community managed by Discovery Land Company, with the renovated North Course in play. The routing threads around historic Hawaiian lava-rock walls, natural streams and gullies, delivering ocean and mountain vistas from many holes. The upcountry setting brings elevation, trade winds and dramatic scenery, giving the Jones II design a rugged, distinctly Maui character that has long drawn praise from visiting golfers.
