Why we love this place

A caddie-built club in the best sense: the men who once carried bags bought this course after the war and kept it alive. We love Peninsula's full-length nine, its deep grassy greenside pits and a story that keeps public golf rooted in Massapequa.

About Peninsula Golf Club

Peninsula Golf Club occupies the site of the old Nassau Shores Country Club, a product of Long Island's 1920s golf-building boom that fell into financial distress after the Depression, went bankrupt in the 1940s and was left neglected. Its rescue came from a group of Nassau County golfers who had first banded together while caddying at Rockaway Peninsula courses in the 1920s, which is where the club's name comes from. In 1946 they bought the Nassau Shores course. Today the nine-hole layout, tucked into a residential neighborhood south of Merrick Road in Massapequa, plays to a par of 37 at roughly 3,350 yards, with two par-5s, a lone par-3 and greens guarded by deep grassy pits. Nassau County covenants require the land to remain a public golf course.
